Maku is the Bengali word for the shuttle used in handloom weaving. Founded by Santanu Das in 2011, Maku Textiles is rooted in the philosophy that doing things by hand promotes sustainability both for the environment and the weaving communities they collaborate with.
Every garment is handspun, handwoven and hand dyed. Focusing primarily on indigo for the palette, colors range from natural white, to sky blue, to the deepest midnight blue. The design details of each piece reflect the indigenous craft, practices and skill set of the people who produce it.
Through their thoughtful and conscientious approach, Maku strives to connect to people who believe in their ethos and encourages every individual to make mindful lifestyle choices.
